The Enclave Patriots, or Vault Patriots, are a minor faction in Fallout: New California.

Background[]

Vault 18's Patriot Program, based around a Vault Ball team of the same name, is outwardly a defense program developed by Coach John Bragg to train Vault 18's young adopted inhabitants to defend the Vault in the event of an external threat. In truth, it is a personal militia he and his sister Chevy have created to seize control of the vault and bolster Enclave Squad Leonidas with fresh Prime Normal recruits. Outwardly, the Patriots maintain a reputation as straight-laced, dutiful, and responsible young vault residents, performing kind deeds such as cleaning up graffiti painted by vault delinquents. However, beneath the facade, they have largely become stone-cold killers who follow orders unquestioningly, either motivated by their beliefs in their place in a future America or simply through harsh indoctrination.

Following his acceptance into Vault 18, Bragg used his position as a seemingly helpful outsider to overplay the dangers of the wasteland to drum up fears amongst the elderly vault residents, and then suggested that he begin to organize a defense program using the adopted tribal children as what amounted to expendable child soldiers. Fearful for their own lives, the vault residents accepted this idea, and the overburdened Wasteland Scouts had no choice but to agree, too weary to investigate. The indoctrination and training of the tribal children was easy, as the vault residents already treated them for the most part as nothing more than worthless, expendable slaves. John Bragg’s bluster of America and self-importance easily appealed to the disillusioned youths, and harsh conditioning and training by Chevy Bragg quickly indoctrinated them into loyal Enclave soldiers.

Meanwhile, Chevy worked to support their power by rising through the ranks of Vault 18 Security, having then-Lieutenant Dan Weathers assassinated and taking his place as Chief Evanson’s second-in-command. This allowed her to grant the Patriots access to the vault’s military-grade weaponry, and even indoctrinate key members of Vault Security to their cause.

Interactions with the Player Character[]

During the introduction, the Star Player plays for the Vault Patriots. It is during this match of Vault Ball that the Star Player makes the life altering decision to either Tackle Or Dodge.

It is possible to side with the Patriots during Hell To Pay, allowing players to access the Enclave main quest arc. The Patriots are not encountered again after leaving Vault 18 until the final quests, Destroy Fort Daggerpoint or Red White and Blood.
