Enclave Squad Leonidas is an Enclave special operations squad operating in New California. They are the last major armed force of the Enclave to still remain on the West Coast as of 2260.

History[]

NCR-Enclave War[]

The original Squad Leonidas was an advanced power armor Mk. II-equipped special operations squad, commanded by Colonel John and Lieutenant Chevy Bragg and tasked with particularly sensitive operations deep in enemy territory, such as locating and conscripting surviving Prime Normal Vault populations to bolster the Enclave's dwindling numbers.[1] The Braggs survived the destruction of Control Station ENCLAVE by the Chosen One in 2242. After regrouping at Camp Navarro, Leonidas participated in the disastrous NCR-Enclave War in northern California and southern Oregon. During this time, the squadron first encountered and quickly became enemies of Kevin Rossman and the Wasteland Scouts, who helped the NCR war effort in the interests of protecting their Vault.

After the NCR captured Navarro, John was sentenced to an NCR prison, while Chevy retreated with Enclave survivors to the fringes of NCR territory, negotiating a deal with the Raider Alliance to hide them and their vertibirds in Athens-Tec Mine in exchange for sharing their advanced technology; the Raider Alliance was already familiar with the Enclave, as they previously had a long-term business relationship trading their mined uranium for Enclave technology.

John Bragg eventually escaped NCR jurisdiction, reuniting with Chevy and receiving orders from surviving Enclave commander Colonel Autumn Senior to secure "Project Brazil," data on which was traced to formerly Enclave-affiliated Senator Andrew Oran's personal Vault - Vault 18.[1]

Infiltrating Vault 18[]

The Braggs' mission was to secure Project Brazil, indoctrinate surviving Vault residents as a new generation of untainted soldiers for the Enclave, and secure Vault 18 as a foothold from which the Enclave could strike back at the NCR. After Enclave agents remotely sabotaged Vault 18's water systems, forcing them to find replacement parts, the Bragg siblings posed as wastelanders and secured the trust of the Wasteland Scouts and Vault 18's leaders by helping them scavenge a water chip from Vault 16, and spent 8 years living among the Vault populace, growing in influence through a combination of manipulation and sabotage. By playing to the fears of the elderly vault population, the Vault's leaders were convinced to let John form the "Vault Patriots," a force ostensibly for vault defense using the vault's young adopted tribal residents as nothing more than meat shields. In reality, it would allow Bragg to indoctrinate the tribal residents, who were mistreated by the "pure-blood" vault residents and easily receptive to Bragg's influence, as loyal new Enclave soldiers. They were supported by Chevy, who joined Vault Security by having then-Lieutenant Dan Weathers assassinated and taking his place,[2] securing firearms and support from certain security members for the Patriots. John then made preparations for his rise to power by campaigning for the position of Overseer against incumbent Albert Christianson in the vault's next election, having his Patriots sabotage the vault's systems to make Christianson seem incompetent.[3]

Operations in the Pass[]

Meanwhile, Squad Leonidas waited in Athens-Tec Mine under the leadership of Autumn Senior and Major Davis, with tensions growing between the squad and their Raider "allies," particularly under the volatile leadership of Juan Maxson-Elsdragon. Expecting betrayal from the raiders, Davis had a 5-megaton nuclear warhead placed in the mine as insurance, but it was rendered unusable by scavengers who broke it apart and hid the parts in the mine's depths. Ghouls of the Necro-Nation banished to the mine's depths bathed in the radiation, eventually turning feral.[4]

Squad Leonidas also had a significant infiltration and intelligence operations presence, with spies dispatched to Union City and a watchstation outside Vault 18 at the Pinehaven hideout. In efforts to destabilize the region, they sabotaged the water purification systems in the Altar of the Ghost to poison both the California Tribe and the NCR, leading to a resurgence of Mind Virus infections in the Pass.

Vault 18 revolt[]

When the Braggs received word that all surviving Enclave personnel were commanded to immediately travel east to the ruins of Washington D.C. by a mysterious "President John Henry Eden," they were forced to take immediate action, leading the Patriots into an armed rebellion while Squad Leonidas personnel waited on the surface to breach the Vault and reunite with the Braggs. Autumn Senior left ahead of time, taking his son and a portion of of the squad's personnel to meet their new president, leaving Davis and his staff to pack up and regroup with the Braggs. They planned to use the vault's data to secure Project Brazil, then secure Fort Daggerpoint's nuclear arsenal for one last "goodbye present" attack on the NCR before retreating east.[5]

Unfortunately for their plans, the Raider Alliance turned on their supposed allies, overwhelming the Enclave personnel at Vault 18 and stealing their advanced weapons, power armor, and vertibirds while the command staff was butchered or captured at Athens-Tec. With the conflict inside Vault 18 leading to its self-destruction from reactor meltdown, the surviving Vault residents, Enclave Patriots and Squad Leonidas members, and Survivalists all dispersed into the Pass. The Bragg twins and the remaining Patriots, having escaped the Vault alive, set out to regroup any surviving Enclave personnel in the Pass and strike back at both the NCR and the Raider Alliance.

Notes[]

The squad's personnel were housed in a bunker located on the outskirts of the Athens-Tec Mine by the Raider Alliance. Although this bunker is currently not found in-game, the Officer's Quarters within is planned for the future 1.0 update as a player home, and the bunker is also to be a part of Dakota Ferron's companion questline.
